ArtsFest Goes to Work

ArtsFest is a free children’s art festival that occurs on the last Saturday of October each year. For 32 years, ArtsFest has fostered an interest in learning in area children through hands-on art projects that revolve around each year’s exciting theme. In partnership with the City of Lake Charles, the Arts Council invites local organizations to host booths that offer engaging activities based in visual art.

The day features live music, one-on-one pottery lessons, interactive demonstrations, a costume contest, and more! Southwest Louisiana schools participate in the ArtsFest Art Contest each year, and the winners are displayed during the event.

This past year’s theme was ArtsFest Goes to Work, and local businesses and organizations hosted art booths that featured the careers and vocations that are vital to not only Southwest Louisiana but to also today’s national economy. From fashion design and farming to carpentry and ceramics, children experienced the ins and outs of these careers while creating fun arts and crafts projects.

ArtsFest 2011 was made possible by L’Auberge Lake Charles, Coca Cola, the American Press, Bolton Ford, Union Pacific, FOX 29/the CW, the Coushatta Tribal Council, and the City of Lake Charles. ArtsFest reaches out to all Lake Area children regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or socioeconomic background, and it offers a safe and fun environment of arts enrichment.
